Baptême du géant Gabriel de Jauche à Mastaing

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the town of Mastaing will celebrate the official christening of Gabriel de Jauche with a large, popular, and heritage-focused gathering of 35 giants from the North and surrounding areas. Organized by the association Les Amis de Gabriel (Friends of Gabriel), this event will mark the official entry—or rather, the return—of Gabriel de Jauche to the large family of Northern giants. Starting at 2:00 p.m., the procession will depart from the town's school on Rue Jules Ferry, before proceeding to Rue Jean Jaurès and then to Place Verte, where the christening ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to share a festive, family-friendly, and intergenerational afternoon, enlivened by brass bands, the invited giants, the bearers, the volunteers, and the local residents. This christening will celebrate the tradition of processional giants, emblematic figures of the living heritage of the Hauts-de-France region, who embody the history, imagination, and identity of the towns and villages. Jehan d'Estaires and Muguette de Prouvy will accompany Gabriel de Jauche as godparents. The day will continue in a convivial atmosphere with: food and drinks available from noon; entertainment throughout the afternoon; souvenir sales; and a concert by the band Take it Easy at 5:00 p.m.
