The Santiago de Compostella pilgrimage

The Tourist Office of La Porte du Hainaut is lucky to have the pilgrimage road to Santiago de la Compostella passing that through its municipalities (the road from Bruges and Tournai and leaving towards Saint-Quentin). The rehabilitation of this trail with the Saint-Jacques en Boulangrie association was the occasion for a grand hiking festival on Sunday 28 April 2013, with the inauguration of the Saint-Amand-les-Eaux - Wallers-Arenberg section, and the laying of brass shells in the ground to show the way as the path crosses the village and town centres.

A second highlight, on 15 September 2013 during the European Heritage Days weekend, was the opening of the section from Wallers-Arenberg to Bouchain, via Denain.

Finally, in April 2014, the Tournai to Saint-Amand-les-Eaux section was inaugurated. All paths are now signposted!
