|JEP| Carnet de voyage entre Scarpe et Escaut : paysages et portraits en Hainaut

For the 2026 European Heritage Days, the Encres Community Library in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux is showcasing the participatory project Travel Journal between the Scarpe and Escaut Rivers: Landscapes and Portraits in Hainaut. For several months, fifteen residents, aged 6 to 66, explored 19 towns and villages in the region, sketching the landscapes of the Scarpe and Escaut rivers and meeting the people who live along their banks. An exhibition of the original sketches offers a glimpse into the perspectives and stories gathered throughout this intergenerational adventure. An Urban Sketching workshop, open to all, led by Virginie Verlynde, sketch artist and the project's initiator, is also available. Beginners and experienced sketchers alike are invited to try their hand at drawing from life. The day will also offer the opportunity to meet participants at book signings for Travel Journal Between the Scarpe and Escaut Rivers: Landscapes and Portraits in Hainaut, a collection of 124 pages of drawings, landscapes, and portraits created throughout the 19 stages of the project. This free workshop requires registration at the Encres Community Library.
