Born in Germany, Petra Hilleke lives and works in Northern France. Her photographic practice explores the gaze, presence, and relationship to the world, between the everyday and perception. Petra Hilleke's images arise from an attention to what is present, close, often overlooked. The gaze rests upon them without hierarchy, gliding from the living to the inert, from the intimate to the shared space. We must approach, slow down, adjust our perspective. Surface, matter, and shadow become places of emergence. Human presence surfaces, withdrawn, reminding us that looking is not a neutral act, but a stance, almost a commitment.
