Folded, contorted, inverted, the body transcends itself in the photographs of Isabelle Wenzel. A former acrobat, the German artist from Wuppertal has been staging herself in each of her creations for over twenty years. Form and sculpture, her own body becomes an instrument for measuring the world. Suspended in movement, it fills the space in a performative, free and sometimes burlesque work. Isabelle Wenzel is a German visual artist born in 1982. Trained at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in visual arts and design, she specializes in photography. After living for a few years in the Netherlands, she reconnected with her origins and settled in Wuppertal, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most industrial region in Germany where there are former lignite mines.
