To see at the museum of archeology and local history of Denain Exhibition entitled: Allegories along the water - Corneille Theunissen and the Pont d'Isle Allegories along the water - Corneille Theunissen and the Pont d'Isle est an exhibition proposed by the Municipal Museum of Denain, which brings together for the first time the 4 small models and the 4 large models of the Pont d'Isle, also called the canal bridge, in Saint-Quentin, in Aisne. This bridge, which existed for a very short time, was decorated with 4 groups sculpted in bronze and four candelabra. It was inaugurated on June 2, 1907 and dismantled by the Germans in March 1917. The bronzes representing the 4 rivers, the Escaut, the Seine, the Oise and the Somme, were then sent to Germany to be melted and probably transformed into shell. These models, beyond the period photographs also presented, are the last witnesses of this grandiose project. ✨ Exhibition visible during museum opening hours: Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Free entry
